Responses to SAC from November meeting
Mr. Peckens reported on the responses by the GC and School Administration (GC/SA)
SAC: Calendar start date being different from APS is worrisome for parents, with no available
camps/childcare.
GC/SA response: SA is will be working on coordinating their schedule and APS and will also be
considering setting up childcare for the week before school starts if appropriate.

Suggestions: Before/After Care starting earlier to align with APS, and including a full day of childcare.
See above
SAC: Are lockers open for consideration in the future?
Especially with the Chromebook student backpacks are very heavy for our youngest students.
GC/SA: Currently there is no plan to install lockers, due to space and security concerns additionally, many
of the textbooks may become electronic in the future.
SAC: Recommendation that the remote option continue into future years.
Discussed the difficulty of teaching both remote and in-person students simultaneously.
Even if remote learning does not continue in its current form, it is suggested that Google Classroom
continue to be adopted by all teachers for assignments/lessons that students and parents can access in
the event of an absence.
GC/SA: It is anticipated that some form of remote option will continue to be available for students who
are unable to attend classes even after the pandemic is over.
SAC: Does the school plan on opening a Kindergarten class? This may affect recruitment tactics.
GC/SA: There is currently no official plan to add a Kindergarten class due to space limitations, however,
long tern plans do include the addition of a Kindergarten as well as increased enrollment for all grade
levels. Additional students will be dependent on the completion of building plans.
New Student Recruitment Efforts discussed at the November SAC meeting will be integrated into the
new recruitment plan if appropriate;

Focus on athletic program since it is unique to public schools
Label pins similar to the Be Kind pins distributed at UNM- “Be a dragon”?
Bumper stickers or car magnets with school info
Mr. Peckens and Ms. Sedore will be bring these suggestions to the Unity Graphics meeting on
February 24 for consideration.

Updated Guidance Regarding Mask Mandate

Good Afternoon Dragon Families!

Due to the current lifting of the mask mandate, 21st Century will proceed with this guidance. While masks are no longer required, they will be optional to students and staff. We strongly recommend that you continue to mask if you have any concerns, and the school supports such a decision. The testing company is now on campus daily from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm so we can test students and staff that have concerns or are experiencing symptoms. All other portions of the toolkit are still in place, i.e. the 5 day quarantine for exposure or testing positive. (See our website for the flow chart) I am still the COVID point of contact should you have any questions.

I want to express a tremendous amount of thanks to our families and staff for keeping their students’ home if they are experiencing symptoms or getting them tested. As a result of your diligence, we were never at a point to consider closure. Please continue this practice as we are not completely through this pandemic.

Be safe and healthy!

Mary Tarango, CEO
21st Century Public Academy
