\nLanguage Arts
\n<\/strong>Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts! \u00a0Our class is full of reading, writing and technology to build a community of lifelong readers and writers prepared to discover the world we live in. We will work each day to strengthen reading, writing, listening, collaborating, critical thinking, and speaking skills. Dragons will be engaged in Public Forum Debates, Collaborative Seminars, Writing Groups, and Literature Circles.
\nReading is a fundamental skill that all students will master to succeed in their hopes and dreams. Our seventh graders will be immersed in reading.\u00a0 At home, students will have a book to read and read nightly. Families are encouraged to ask:\u00a0\u201cWhat are you reading\u00a0tonight\u00a0for your Language Arts homework?\u201d\u00a0Students should read a self-selected book at least twenty minutes nightly. While reading the book, students will write responses on\u00a0\u201cBookmarks\u201d. After completing each book, students will complete a\u00a0\u201cCover to Cover\u201d Report.
\nTogether, we will actively build vocabulary, grammar, reading skills, and writing to make connections to our world through language arts!
\nMath<\/strong>
\nWelcome to seventh grade math! There will be many opportunities this year for extensive experiences with fraction operations. Students will be working with expressions and equations to solve real world problems. Also, geometry concepts will be explored through applications to the our world involving angle measure, surface area and volume. Statistics and probability will also be part of our curriculum. It will be a fun year!
\nScience<\/strong>
\nThe focus of 7th Grade Life Science ranges from tiny cells to entire ecosystems. We study the needs of life, heredity\/genetics, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and classification of organisms. The scientific method will be practiced throughout the year and several scientific theories will be covered such as Cell Theory and the Theory of Evolution by means of Natural Selection. We also delve into fascinating topics such as viruses, bacteria, fungus, insects, plants, amphibians, and mammals. We wrap up the year by learning about human body systems and use dissections to observe real organs. This course will provide a well rounded introduction to biology. \nSocial Studies<\/strong>
\nWelcome to the 2020-2021 school year where we will learn everything about New Mexico! We will learn about the history, geography, economics, government, and culture that makes New Mexico New Mexico! We will start with the geography of NM and learn how geography shapes where people live. Next, we will learn about how to be a historian and how to analyze primary\/secondary sources, understand bias, and how to research events in history. After we have those basics done, we will get to my favorite part\u2026. HISTORY! We will start with the paleolithic era and go all the way to the time of the railroad in NM!
\nThis year the 7th grade team will be using remind app, and you will need to join it ASAP! The remind app is a way for our 7th<\/sup>\u00a0grade team to communicate with you via text messages.\u00a0 We will send you texts about announcements, OSI\/VOSI information, family nights, etc.
