{"id":6480,"date":"2020-10-05T13:45:17","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T13:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/21stcenturypa.com\/wp\/?p=6480"},"modified":"2020-10-05T13:45:20","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T13:45:20","slug":"9-28-20-pta-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/21stcenturypa.com\/wp\/?p=6480","title":{"rendered":"9\/28\/20 PTA Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, PTA President, at 7:03 pm on Monday, September 28, 2020.<br>The minutes from the August 7, 2020 General PTA meeting were approved as read.<br>Attendance: Bianca Belmonte-Sapien, Janet Giron, Angela Lerner, Mikel Wagner,<br>Alfreda Begay, Alesha Dillander, Belgee Chandler, Brenda Segovia, D. Dinaro, Erin<br>Saunders, Ernesto De Lilla, J. Johnson, Ken Johnson, Lani McCarson, Megan Ramirez,<br>Rebecca Starrett, Scott Kircher, Jamie Kircher,Wendy McCourt, Shari and April<br>Principal&#8217;s Report by Ms. Belmonte-Sapien:<br>\uf0b7 Thank you to parents for attending the meeting.<br>\uf0b7 Students&#8217; Progress Reports will be released by September 30 th.<br>\uf0b7 Students are doing a good job attending classes and using the learning support times<br>provided by their teachers.<br>\uf0b7 The school applied for and received funding for 10 extended learning days. These days have<br>been added throught the school year and can be seen on the calender on the school website.<br>There will be no Fall Break as these will be extended learning days and school will end on<br>June 3 rd .<br>\uf0b7 The school has re-established its Equity Council and begun a School Advisory Council.<br>These councils will meet once a month, most likely before the PTA meeting.<br>\uf0b7 The school&#8217;s Governance Council meets on the 3 rd Thursday of every month. Parents are<br>welcome to attend. The next meeting will be October 15 th .<br>\uf0b7 The school staff has participated in Covid safety training. Covid screening for students will<br>also be implemented.<br>President&#8217;s Report given by Janet Giron:<br>\uf0b7 The chrome book pick up was a big success thanks to the hard work of the staff. The PTA<br>was able to pass out uniforms and goody bags to the students.<br>\uf0b7 More donations for the uniform closet are needed.<br>\uf0b7 2 people are needed for the by-law revision committee. The by-laws need to be revised and<br>submitted to New Mexico PTA by Friday, October 2.<br>\uf0b7 The PTA&#8217;s Adopt a Teacher Program has been very successful. Parents donate money to<br>\u201cadopt\u201d a teacher each month. The PTA then provides lunch or another treat to each staff<br>member. This month the lunch is being provided by a parent who owns a catering company,<br>so in this way we are also helping support small businesses in our community. A few<br>donations are still needed for October.<br>\uf0b7 The school supplies fundraiser was also successful. 51 bundles of supplies were sold.<br>\uf0b7 Membership \u2013 we now have 16 members. Go to the Memberhub link on the Facebook page<br>to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Treasurer&#8217;s Report given by Angela Lerner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\uf0b7 The bank balance is $11,970.89. We have $8,000 in carryover.<br>\uf0b7 The actuals have been posted on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\uf0b7 The budget has been posted and will need to be voted on tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fundraising:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\uf0b7 There will be no Fall Festival this year but we are working on a plan for a trunk-or-<br>treat\/car parade at the school near Halloween. Participants would remain in their cars.<br>\uf0b7 Janet Giron is working on procuring pumpkins locally. These will be distributed to<br>students with the potential for an on-line pumpkin decorating contest with prizes.<br>\uf0b7 A committee of 2 or more people is needed to help Alfreda Begay with fundraising.<br>\uf0b7 Restaurant fundraisers are always popular. We will look into doing more of them this<br>year.<br>\uf0b7 An online auction is another idea. We would solicit local businesses for donation of<br>items that could be auctioned.<br>\uf0b7 Mikel Wagner is looking into setting up a GotSneakers.com fundraiser.<br>GotSneakers.com would provide marketing material and postage paid bags and we<br>would collect sneakers to send in. They pay $3 apiece for new sneakers, $1 apiece for<br>wearable used sneakers, and 25 cents for sneakers that would need to be recycled. Drop<br>off could coincide with the Halloween event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Business:<br>\uf0b7 Mr. Johnson spoke about his GoFundMe event for Music. A goal of $1,500 was set in order<br>to pay for a music theory program which will allow students to learn music theory online<br>and at their own pace. $2,300 was raised.<br>\uf0b7 We will need to add Music as a new line item under Fundraising so we can accept<br>donations, purchase the music theory program with the GoFundMe proceeds, and use the<br>extra money to support other music events like the end of year performance.<br>\uf0b7 Alfreda Begay moved that under Fundraising in the budget we add line items for School<br>Supply Bundles, Music, and Adopt a Teacher. Angie Lerner seconded the motion. All voted<br>in favor and the motion was passed.<br>\uf0b7 Alfreda Begay moved that the proposed 2020-2021 PTA Budget be approved. Angie Lerner<br>seconded the motion. All voted in favor and the motion was passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other:<br>\uf0b7 The only sports which will played this fall are Golf, Cross-Country and Volleyball.
