Thank you to Equity Council, used ideas about multicultural resources in CSP Grant request for over $103,000.00.

Black History Month- how are teachers addressing topics- current and historical? World History cultural relevance? Link to current or relevant topics in today’s society linking to race/class/economic status. Time for faculty to learn and grow to teach topics.

Reviewed requested data-04% NA (Navajo, Laguna, Isleta, Zuni, Jicarilla Apache, Mescalero Apache), 47% Economically Disadvantaged (determined through free/reduced lunch qualified).

Possibilities for educating around Dreamers as a status group. UNM Farmworkers acknowledgment celebration.

LGBTQ opportunities for education. Safe Zones at 21st Century Public Academy.

Conversations for context with cultural underpinnings in content readings (Voodoo, Dia De Los Muertos). Follow-up by teachers with dialogue, discussion for impacted groups.

Agenda: Underserved Populations- Advisory Topics for Equity

Minutes: September Draft Minutes reviewed, no corrections/additions. Access to 21st Century as a choice- 10% EL, 19% Special Education, XX% NA, XX% Economically Disadvantaged. Ms. B will work with STARS coordinator on 40 Day Data pull for NA population including Tribal Affiliation. Possible Bus Routes (NE/SE) as a means of access. Resources and curriculum for teachers to share (such as Indigenous People’s Day). What are the curriculum, resources, and how can teachers adjust? Possibility of recognition of monthly cultural celebrations across the school- A fact, sound clips a day for the month- start with something small, such as current events connections. Add local/culturally significant Wax museum choices. How can we get our teachers on board? Question: What is the demographic make-up of our staff? 32% Male. Question: Curriculum/Textbooks used by teachers? Availability of books by people of color at 21st Century. Choice of book for SSR during homeroom, what is the topic/author composition of book grade level lists? EL book purchases with diverse cultural significance. Discussed OSI uses of cultural resources in NM.
