Discussion of Potential School Calendar Changes
Lora and Jeremy presented information and challenges on school calendar changes

The school is aware that current calendar is a challenge for many parents and is willing to discuss
possible solutions.
The Governing Board has the final say in any changes.
The current schedule was developed with a longer school day which ends up shortening the
number of days while fulfilling the number of hours required.
The current schedule was developed to accommodate the OSI program but is open to change.
In keeping with the school philosophy of open communications with all concerned the
administration highly recommends discussion of changes with the teaching staff as well as
parents. The discussion will be ongoing and included in the Wednesday Staff meetings to ensure
an informed and supportive staff.
The SAC discussed the following items to consider:
Changing the schedule to mirror APS schedule
Providing childcare for the weeks when APS starts, most summer programs follow the APS
schedule and leave 21 st Century parents scrambling for daycare
Most of the students effected are in the lower grades and as the school expands to kindergarten
the number will increase.
Different school schedules for elementary and mid-school-
Action Items
Lora asked Rebecca to provide the chart she had developed that clearly identifies the days in
question for both the beginning and ending session dates.
Lora will present a summary to this discussion to the Governing Board.
Lora will research other programs that may be able to provide the needed daycare either in
house or outside options.
Request a questionnaire from the school to identify the type and number of students needing daycare services.
Jeremy will schedule a meeting with SAC within the next month for further discussion after
input from the board and staff.
