3/14/22 PTA Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, President, at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 14, 2022.
The minutes from the January 10, 2022 General PTA Meeting were approved as read.
Attendance:
Janet Giron, Angela Lerner, Mikel Wagner, Lani McCarson, Jeremy Peckens, Rikki Hernandez,
The Open House will be held in person on April 2 from 9 am to 3 pm. There will be 2 hour time slots
for each grad level. We will need to have a PTA presence. 9 am to 11 am is for grades 1-4, 11 am to 1
pm is for grades 6 & 5 and 1 pm to 3 pm is for grades 7 & 8. Teachers from each grade level will be
present at those times. It is open to all, not just students who have accepted lottery spots.
The 8 th grade band will perform on April 30 at Green Jeans, during Spring Fling on May 6 from 5:30 to
7 pm. There may possibly be other concerts at Highland Theater and on at a park on May 20.
PTA elections will be postponed until the next meeting as there are not enough attendees tonight to
vote. We need to write an email and prepare a flyer to send out asking for volunteers for board
positions.
We may be able to to move the snack bar indoors again.
Yearbook pictures are needed. The deadline is coming up. Pictures can be submitted to
yearbook@21stcenturypa.com
Treasurer’s Report by Angela Lerner/Mikel Wagner:
 Three people are needed to do an audit of the PTA books over the summer.
Principal’s Report by Jeremy Peckens:
 The school received 300 new Chromebooks
 Dash cams have been installed on the buses
 The Ripple Effects program for social/emotional learning is being implemented. All staff
have received training. Now we have to decide whether to do it during homeroom or some
other time.
 The next Governance Council meeting will be April 21 at 5:30pm.
President’s Report by Janet Giron:
 Spring Fling:
We will rent jumpers again from the same company we used for Fall Festival
We will sell hot dogs, nachos, chips, drinks and cotton candy.
School staff will help out with the booths
Science Girl will have a booth. She costs $300.
We will have a DJ. He costs $100 an hour.
We still need parent volunteers to help out.
 8 th Grade Graduation will be on May 25. Last day for 8 th Graders will be May 24.

New Business:
 Lani McCarson moved to re-allocate $4,500 from Trash Bag Fundraiser Expense to Spring
Fling Expense. Rikki Hernandez seconded the motion. The motion passed with a show of
hands. This means the budget for Spring Fling is now $5,700.
 Posters for the recycling initiative can be paid for from New School Needs Expense.

The next PTA General Meeting will be Monday, April 11 at 7:00 pm. The meeting was adjourned at
8:01 pm.

1/10/22 PTA Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, President, at 7:10 pm on Monday, January 10, 2022.
The minutes from the December 13, 2021 General PTA Meeting were approved as corrected.
Attendance:

Principal’s Report by Jeremy Peckens:
 The grading period will close on Wednesday and new schedules will start on Thursday.
 The Equity Council is seeking new members. We need parents whose children represent the
the following groups: Native American, speak English as the 2 nd language, with disabilities
and economicaly needy
 New covid safe practices have been implemented during lunch. These include not allowing
the students to talk while eating because their masks are down.
 Our on site testing company, PMG, was not on campus this morning. They have been
dealing with staff shortages.
 Student led conferences will be February 16, 17, and 18. No students will be on campus
those days.
 The next Governance Council meeting will be January 20 at 5:30pm.
President’s Report by Janet Giron:
 We are looking for volunteers for the PTA board for next year (President, Vice-President,
Treasurer and Secretary). Board elections will be in March and we hope to have the new
board in place in time for the New Mexico PTA Convention.
 Volunteers are also needed to help with snack bar, teacher appreciation and events.
 Yearbooks can be purchased online. Send pictures for the yearbook to
yearbook@21stcenturypa.com . They will go to Ms. Baca.

Vice-President’s Report by Lani McCarson:
 Donut Day for Student Council has been successful. We are selling about 8 dozen donuts a
week. Rise & Roast has been donating the donuts.

Secretary’s Report by Mikel Wagner:
 Nothing to report.
Treasurer’s Report by Angela Lerner:
 The bank balance is $13,876.75.
 All deposits have been made. $5,689.79 is the gross year-to-date for snack bar.
Social:
 Spring Fling: we might get a jumper for the older kids. It would be good to use the traffice
circle as well as the parking lot so students are able spread out more.

12/13/21 PTA Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, President, at 7:03 pm on Monday, December 13, 2021.
The minutes from the November 15, 2021 General PTA Meeting were approved as read.
Attendance:

Principal’s Report by Mary Tarango:
 We have not yet received Title I SSR money yet.
 All 3 of the bids for the HVAC/Solar project are not back yet.
 In March we will start talks to buy the Income Support Building.
President’s Report by Janet Giron:
 Science Bowl participant presents have been purchased.
 Cofffee and donuts will be provided for the teachers on Thursday, January 13.
 We will have prizes for the food drive classroom winners (top 4 classes) on Thursday. We
will have enough food for supply boxes for 20 familes, and the Foundations has bought 15
turkeys. We have received a donation of $400. The donor would like us to use it for uniform
shirts and year-end supply bundles for needy families.

 The Governance Council meeting will be Thursday, January 16 at 5:30pm.

 The bank balance is $11,166.51 as of today.
 Upcoming disbursments will be for insurance, snack bar, and reimbursements for Fall
Festival.

Social:
 The date of May 20 for Spring Fling will be too close to graduation, so Ms. Tarango will
propose May 13 th to the staff.
 8 th Grade Graduation will be Tuesday, May 24 or Wednesday, May 25.
New Business:
 Janet Giron moved to create a new budget line item of $1400 called Community Outreach.
Lani McCarson seconded it. The motion passed with a show of hands.

11/15/21 PTA Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, President, at 7:34 pm on Monday, Novmber 15, 2021.
The minutes from the October 11, 2021 General PTA Meeting were approved as read.
Attendance:
Mary Tarango, Janet Giron, Angela Lerner, Mikel Wagner, Lani McCarson, Jeremy Peckens,

Principal’s Report by Mary Tarango:
 Title I money for last year has not been received yet. SR2 funds will be awarded by January

  1. These funds will be used for more HEPA filters in the cafeteria and upgrades in some
    offices. The HVAC/Solar project is now budgeted for and we are requesting quotes from
    vendors. There will be a 6 th month window to start the project. We are upgrading to fiber
    optic internet for the school.
     The school now has a new organizational chart. Ms. Tarango will take over Mrs. B’s duties
    and we will hire a new CFO.
     MAP testing will be coming up in December (starting the second week and ending on the
    the 10 th ). Our MAP testing will become the interim testing that the PED now requires of all
    schools.
     The new Test to Stay Program for Covid has to be implemented by January. We have
    received a grant for $80,000 to implement it. Under the program, if a person has two covid
    symptons, they can test on day 1, 3 and 5 and remain in school, or do a 10 day quarantine.
     We are hiring two new middle school EA’s to help with study lab and to help Mr. Flores, our
    new speial education teacher for the 6 th grade. We now have a special education teacher for
    each middle grade and one for the elementary grades.
     The next Governance Council meeting is Thursday, November 18.

     Thank you to all who volunteered to help at the Fall Festival.
     Snack bar is getting into a good routine. Snack bar will be available weather permitting
    during the winter months.
     Student Council will start selling donuts and sodas on Fridays after school in place of snack
    bar.

Vice-President’s Report by Lani McCarson:
 There will now be a US flag on display outside the school every day. Student Council is
doing training and will take care of raising and lowering it each day.

Secretary’s Report by Mikel Wagner:
 Nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report by Angela Lerner:
 The bank balance was $15,198.08 as of November 8.
 Recent disbursements were $200 for pumpkins and $900 for the jumpers for Fall Festival.
 There will be a reimbursement to Janet Giron for over $5,000 for snack supplies year to
date, items for the school supplies bundles fundraiser, teacher lunch and breakfast supplies
and Balloons Aloft.
 The 990 has been filed.
Social:
 Our canned food drive will be starting on November 29 and ending December 10. There
will be a competiton to see which class contributes the most canned food. The reward will
be a hot chocolate party on December 15. This will also be a Christmas dress up day.
 We will be asking for donations of gift cards for staff gifts.
New Business:
 There is no new business.
