The meeting was called to order by Janet Giron, President, at 7:09 pm on Monday, October 11, 2021.
The minutes from the September 13, 2021 General PTA Meeting were approved as corrected.
Attendance:
Mary Tarango, Janet Giron, Angela Lerner, Mikel Wagner, Lani McCarson, Wendy, Jeremy
Peckens, Manuel Montano
Principal’s Report by Mary Tarango:
Our current enrollment is 365. 390 was the projected enrollment.
Data Day will be 10/26. No students will be on campus. The teachers will meet to adjust the
curriculum based on MAP test scores. They will discuss ELTP and there will be an active
shooter presentation and Q&A.
The quarter ends on 10/22. Grades will be out by 10/29.
Current school improvement projects are improving the HVAC system, a new security
system and installing solar panels.
Ms. Tarango is now the Covid point of contact person.
We are hiring a new special ed teacher for the 6 th grade. We will now have a special ed
teacher for each middle school grade level and one for the elementary.
We still need to hire an EA.
Ms. Belmonte-Sapien is no longer with us. We miss her and wish her well
President’s Report by Janet Giron:
The next Governance Council Meeting will be on 10/21at 5:30 pm.
Yearbooks are for sale. The link is on the Facebook page.
Help is still needed after school for the snack bar.
The art teacher is still looking for some supplies, milk jugs in particular.
Vice-President’s Report by Lani McCarson:
Still working on Stone Age and Green Jeans fundraisers.
Help is needed for the Fall Festival.
Help is needed on Wednesdays for the snack bar.
Treasurer’s Report by Angela Lerner:
Current balance is $14,613.16.
Upcoming expenses are dues, hospitality, and reimbursment for the purchase of school
supplies.
Social:
The afternoon of the 29 th will be good for Halloween activities instead of a Fall Festival on
the weekend. We can buy pumpkins again this year for the kids to purchase, carve and then
bring back to school for a contest.
Student Council might want to take over some of the Halloween activities.
We can ask parents for donations of candy and soda.
The budget of $700 for Fall Festival should be sufficient.
Parent volunteers will be needed on the 29 th at 1 pm to help with the festivities.
Ms. Tarango would like to make Spring Fling an extra big event this year to mark the 21 st
anniversary of 21 st Century Public Academy. May 21 st would be a good date!
New Business:
There is no new business.
The next PTA General Meeting will be Monday, November 8 at 7:00 pm.

Open Forum Mary Tarango shared that there are two individuals interested in becoming members of
the Governing Board Council. Vicente Vargas, parent of 21 st Century, is interested in serving on the
council. Sistine Jaramillo is another member of the community who is interested in serving on the
council.
FINANCE
Budget analyst, Amber Peña, senior member of the Vigil group shared the financial reports as of
September 30. 2021. The expenditure reports as of September 30 was presented. BARs to clean up the
negatives will be presented during this meeting AM/PM fees and activity fees and Medicaid check.
Members of the Finance Committee met prior to the Governance Council meeting and reviewed all
financial documents. It was pointed out that there are negative line items in some accounts, due to two
funds still waiting to arrive (Title I and ESSR II 2020).

a. We have hired a new Middle School Special Education teacher, who will be working primarily
with the 6th grade. He begins on November 1st.
b. We have openings for 1-2 EAs, and are looking for potential candidates.
PRESENTATION OF POTENTIAL GC MEMBERS- INTRODUCTION AND Q&A
Vicente Vargas attended the meeting and told the members why he would like to be a member of the Governing
Council. As per the By-laws, he should attend on Nov 18 th to be voted in as Governing Council Member.
