8th Grade End-of-Year and Continuation Ceremony Information

Good Afternoon 8th Grade Families,

Chromebook Collection
We will be collecting Chromebooks from all in-person students this Friday (May 28). Students who are absent and virtual students can drop-off their Chromebooks next week either on Wednesday (June 2) from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm or Thursday (June 3) from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm. Teachers will be outside the school building for collection. Please make sure your student has cleaned off their chromebooks (including stickers) and brings the charger when dropping them off.
If these times don’t work, please be in contact as soon as possible with your student’s homeroom teacher to schedule an alternative time.
*PTA will also be taking uniform donations for the uniform bank during drop-off.

Last Week of School
Please help us encourage students to turn in all of their late or missing work by Friday, May 28th.

There will be no school Monday (May 31) in observance of Memorial Day.

Tuesday and Wednesday (June 1 and June 2) will be half days with student release at 11:44 am. Lunch will not be served these days but buses will still be available.

Tuesday (June 1) we will have an end of the year celebration for the students at Altura Park (https://goo.gl/maps/aHjKoJbpn1y1P4HKA). Students will walk from the school to the park in the morning, and parents will need to pick up students at the park from 11:30 am-11:45 am.

Wednesday (June 2) will be the last day of school for 8th-grade students and they should not report for classes on Thursday (June 3).

Continuation Ceremony
The 8th Grade Continuation Ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 3rd from 6 pm -7 pm in the school gymnasium. Students will need to follow the same school dress code we have on picture day. No revealing clothing, no spaghetti straps, no torn pants or shorts, and no sweatpants. If you need further clarification, please visit the handbook your student brought home. Due to state regulations on group gatherings, we will only be allowed to have the 8th graders present within the building. We ask that families stay outside and in their cars.

Students may enter the gym starting at 5:45pm. We will have a “Congratulations” sign outside the gym where families can take a quick photo with their soon-to-be high schooler. Parents can park on the school lot and across the street in the Income Support lot. We will be projecting the ceremony on the south wall of the gym and we will also stream it live.

All 8th graders are welcome to attend in-person and virtually from home. If your student is participating virtually, they will be able to pick up their items before the ceremony at the school from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm.

Please contact your students’ homeroom teacher with any questions and to make alternative plans to drop off Chromebooks.
